Between Mess and Mastery (Reversible 2 in 1 panels)

Acrylic, Graphite-pencil and eraser

In 2003, I began creating abstract reversible panel diptych oil paintings. They are a process of intertwining oil paint with pencil drawing and erasing. Often, the pencil drawing incorporates backward and forward writing as a form of mark-making. The paintings begin abstract and then may evolve finding reference to imagery in the creative process. Personally I love that place between abstraction and realism. Aspects of this series flow into other series explorations. Like all my painting series, this series remains ongoing and evolving today. Possibly due to my long-term engagement with this series, I find these paintings very freeing.
